Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap | Discussion

Hi friends,

This is a post where you can share / discuss views about the Sony TV's show Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap. I made this post, as i have seen blog readers exchanging their views on the said show on many posts. It will be very beneficial and easy to read if the discussions are carried out of this thread.
Enjoy.! :D

The description of the show as per the PH :
" Around 400 years back, with the might of their huge armies, foreign forces, one after another, were invading the Indian territories. Afghans, Turks and then the Mughals...all had one burning desire... establishing their control over a prosperous India. But even in these hard times, there was one province which gave a bold fight to these enemies and that was the gleaming rajya of the Rajputs- Mewar! For the rajputs, no sacrifice weighed more importance than freedom. But despite this unprecedented courage, Mughal forces often dominated over the courageous Rajputs and it seemed the desires of these enemies would be fulfilled before long. In this troubled time, the soil of Mewar gave birth to its bravest son, Maharana Pratap who became an emblem for courage for the entire country. This is the story of a great warrior king, who in personal life is an ideal son to his father, a loving son to his step mother who hates him, a soothing leader to his people in their difficult times and trials. He is most surprisingly the man who only had love for his brothers, who in turn were either filled with jealousy, or hatred as they wanted themselves to be the rulers of Mewar. Many of these brothers went in the service of Akbar, but as history proves, his love would change his jealous brothers melodramatically in times of War. The story of Maharana Pratap is not just the story of king who was a great warrior and who lead the army of his kingdom to victory against the armies of another empire. The story of Maharana Pratap is also not the story of a Rajput prince, who got his throne as a birthright from his father and ruled their state as a king in comfort. This story is actually the journey of a boy Pratap, who much later would earn his title Maharana, through his own deeds and dedication."

    2. Is MP getting married to the Marwar princess and is Ajabde fine with this decision?

  10. Abhay!!
I'm glad you made this post!! MP is one of my heroes and I have extreme respect for him :)What impresses me the most about MP is that his kingdom single handedly succeeded in remaining independent in spite of very strong opposition from Akbar and perhaps his help which included the entire Rajputana !!So one kingdom under MP could resist the power of several kingdoms put together!!He's the perfect example of "when there is a will there is a way". I can't imagine the amount of mental strength, patriotism, love for freedom, strong will power, determination, brilliant strategy and warrior skills he must have possessed. He did not choose to live the easy, luxurious life unlike many but chose the difficult one with hurdles but emerged victorious and got himself immortalized in history!

It is a foregone conclusion - Abhay will always support MP but his support to Akbar will depend on the circumstances. :)

  14. Dec 3, 2014 Episode

Saw the episode in mute after a long time and read WU in parts.

MP and Ajabde seem to have reconciled to each other temporarily but not completely. :) When Ajabde was injured by the arrow, MP's reaction was instinctive. He just threw his sword at the Afghan soldier, who had wound Ajabde, and killed him instantly. That one moment was such a defining moment for their relationship. If he really felt nothing but anger / hatred for Ajabde, would he have felt that impulsive desire to kill the guy who had hurt her?

Just as beautiful is his relationship with Chetak. He called out to the horse for help and the horse didn't let him down. Fending off the enemy and even jumping across fire to reach his master seems to be child's play for Chetak. Wonder of wonders, he even brought the medicinal leaves MP required to treat her wounds! Such a devoted and intelligent animal! :)

Coming back to MP-Ajabde, he took her to a safe place and even prepared lep for her wounds himself, a la Jodha. I am sure he was scared she would die if not treated on time. (He must have realized the arrow heads were poisoned.) He was really shaken by the depth of her wounds. Seeing her at such close quarters and in the jaws of death, he was reminded of all the times he had felt a fatal, magnetic attraction for her ever since coming to Bijolia. Yet, all this love and longing could not make him break the promise he had made to his parents that he would not have anything to do with Ajabde in Bijolia. And so he covered her with a sheet and dressed her wounds with the lep, like a hakim treating the wounds of an anonymous soldier.

I am looking fwd to see if he takes her with him to Chittor or not. :)

I agree episode discussions will be difficult considering the slow pace. :) I did post my take on Dec 3 episode though above.

Chetak has been portrayed exactly like u described him. :) I thought it was OTT but your description confirms it was like that only in reality too. :)

I heard of the legend of Chetak saving MP's life by running on 3 legs and dying later, though I didn't know it leapt over the ghati too.

I am also waiting for historical posts on MP!

  17. Iqra, watch out for more posts on this thread :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dear iqra, don't worry, Abhay will take us thru this journey also, an exclusively Rajput territory, with his enchanting posts.;) But fr now as an intro, let me tell u, Maharana Pratap was one of the most courageous chivolrous great warrior Rajputana has ever produced. As u hv read in the above post, he was extremely protective, a knight in armour like in his attitude towards pride of Rajputs n Bharatiyas.Father- son duo, Rana Udai singh n Pratap singh, never ever considered bowing down to the invaders, be it Afghans or Mughals. He was the contemperory of Akbar, then u can only imagine what cud be the situation!
Chetak was the name of Rana Pratap' s war horse. Iqra, they say, horse is the second most loyal animal after dogs. This loyal horse was used to understand not only his master's orders but also his moods.Having stood by him in many wars, he breathed his last in the war of Haldighati wherein Rajputs were smaller in numbers as compared to Afghans.it was decided that pratap shud leave the field fr safety. Chetak, though himself injured seriously, understood the grave situation, n ran with injury, n took his master away frm the battlefield. It leapt the Nalla, a small river, n died after that. It seems Pratap's brother Shakti singh followed him n then gave his horse to pratap to escape.
In this Chetak Smarak, we hv paintings of Haldighati battle, Chetak escaping with Rana pratap, Pratap mourning the death of his loyal horse, along with many other things The life like statue of Rana Pratap mounting on Chetak, the expression in his eyes, Chetak's obidient pose, is very bautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry, Radhika, Chetak leapt a small river, nalla not ghati.:(

  20. Iqra, I too want to ask u something. Can we move on to MUZ mosque post, as it is related to mosque?

    ReplyDelete
  21. history-geek, I would like to know if this seperation of Ajebde n Mp really happened? or it was NR showing their color?it seems Maharani Jayavantabai left the palace n took sanyas. did it happen in reality? Why was she not persuaded to come back? They hv not even shown rana Udai singh searching fr her!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well said, Geeta! MP was able to win back from the Mughals most of Mewar except Chittor. Truly a great warrior in a class of his own!

He was the heir but Queen Dhirbai Batiyani, his step-mother, got her own son Jagmaal appointed as the heir in the last days of Rana Udaisingh. He probably sat on the throne for a few hours before he was removed by the noblemen and MP coronated as the king.

Looking fwd to learning more about this warrior, who is perhaps one of the greatest Rajput legends in history, from Abhay's posts and discussions on this thread. :)

This is all NR. Ajabde was MP's first and favorite wife and never left him like this. Nor did his mother ever leave the palace and take sanyas.

  29. Wow Geeta, Radhika and Abhay. Just starting to read the MP post. have been mainly preoccupied with JA. My only knowledge of MP and Chetak was from Amar Chitra Kathas. Thanks for sharing these lovely accounts.

  30. Radhika,
    1.Both r in Bijoriya
2.That's an old story, CV's hv done with. Both MP n Ajabde hv been seperated on the day of their marraige due to the gr8 cospirater Dhirbai.I don't know how much of it's true Abhay will tell us.You will be most irritaed if we start episode discussion here, because nothing moves. it's better to hv historical postings frm abhay.;)
Regarding ur qbtn on Chetak, Radhika, a Smarak has been built by MP on the spot where it died.It is located if I remeber correctly frm 4-5 kms frm Nathdwara, in the district of Rajsamand of Rajasthan.
It's huge statue of MP mounted on Chetak, n very beautiful. It's a quiet place with a garden n a museum(old). For history loving people, this place is a complete treasurelike. Museum holds along with the weapons, a gr8 deal of info on MP, n Mughal fighting, war of Haldighati n it's paintings. It seems Chetak used to understand whatever told to him. He was very protective of his master. During the battle of Haldighati, he n pratap were badly injured. But the horse wanted to save the life of MP, so he ran on 3 legs, n brought MP out of enemy hold by leaping the ghat. He breathed his last after making sure his master was out of danger.
This place makes u emotional u feel tears in u eyes. at the same time u feel sense of pride n honour.
In the serial Chetak must hv been portrayed rather dramatically overdoing everything, but it's fascinating.:)

  31. Ha, ha, Abhay, I told u it won't stop at one empire. So, we all made u post on MP too. It's but natural Abhay, as they interconnected.it would be interesting to know whose side u will take:)

  32. Geeta,
What Radhika has told you answers your question. I have not known of Maharani Jaivanta Bai Sa leaving Chittor, or any separation of Maharani Ajabde Bai Sa and Maharana Pratap. These two understood each other very well. Infact, after approx. 2 years of marriage only they had a son.!!!

  33. Iqra, Preeti and all..

I will reply asap. I am finishing answering the old comments, or i will miss them. :)
It's almost morning here & I am still stuck up in work. Will get back on MUZ topic too. Till then, you all can debate it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. please dont worry Abhay, take your time. Since I had posted these questions a few days ago I though you may have missed it. Hope you get to go home and sleep soon. Take care

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks Radhika, I don't know whether to laugh or scorn, makers of MP hv gone one step ahead n re-written history. Had it not been fr this platform, I would hv thought all that rubbish really happened!
They tortured us fr 3 months with the suspence, whom MP was going to marry, Ajebde or Phulkunwer:) It wasn't proper to ask Abhay on JOaK platform in IF.And morover, one Forum was enough:)
As I don't hv a girlchild, I was amused at the ability of these child actreses' to rattamaar the lenthy dialogues that too in shudh Hindi. It was also amazing that a muslim actor Faisal khan could perfectly etch the charecter of MP, as no body cud. n a Hindu boy Vishal mouthing the dialogues in Urdu, as menancing Akbar:) This only proves talent has no boundry

    ReplyDelete
  36. Geeta

I think both Ajabde and Phool Kunwar were wives of MP. Maharani Ajabde was the first wife. But he also later married a Phool Bai Rathore. I don't know if she is the same as shown as Phool Kunwar in this show.

MP had quite a few wives. :)

  37. radhika dear - where is bijolia? is it important rajput state lyk chittor. i m naive in rajput history. pardon my questions.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Iqra,
Bijolia was a part of North-East Mewar and home-town of Maharani Ajabde Bai Sa, as told by Radhika above. Today this place is located South-West of Bundi in Rajasthan.

The state was Mewar and Chittor was the capital, and Bijolia was a part of the state of Mewar. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Iqra

You are asking the wrong person! What I know of the Rajputs is what I have learnt from Abhay.

Bijolia is close to the western border of Mewar and the home town of Ajabde. Beyond the fact that it was open to attacks from Afghans and other invaders, Bijolia, as such, doesn't seem very important for me. Chittor, on the other hand, was the capital of Mewar. And the fort of Chittor was a very important stronghold of Rajputs, till it fell.

  41. Suganya,
I know the track from WU's. Pratap's younger brother attempted his mother's life and the suspicion of his father is on Pratap.

Geeta may be able to tell more.. :-P :)

  42. Oh i see :) Hindi serials n their Saazhishes never ends :P Wish Geeta gives the update to us ;P

    ReplyDelete
  43. No, Abhay, Udai Singh KNOWS Pratap is innocent. But in typical cinematic fashion, Pratap has promised his stepmother Dheerbai that he would protect her son (who is actually responsible for shooting her) from his father. Hence Pratap stays studiously quiet.

All the evidence points towards Pratap yet the father in the king cannot bear to punish his son on this basis because he knows his son is innocent. He therefore plans to unravel the mystery along with Rawal.

    Geeta,

Some brahmin wants MP's help to save the cows in their region from a powerful guy who is very dangerous. MP has been placed under house arrest by his father yet he goes with that brahmin to save the cows. And he takes Jagmaal with him! Ostensibly to train him in warfare. But Jagmaal takes a gun to shoot MP at teh 1st chance. Dheerbai asks someone to get the gun from Jagmaal before he really kills MP.

Maan stands upto Dheerbai and Jagmaal in support of MP. Ajabde supports MP.
Akbar is depressed because the pir has told him he will not be able to kill /defeat MP in direct battle.

One point of comparison between JA and MP:

There is no physical intimacy between MP and Ajabde. They behave like royalty and stand apart respectfully at all times. Their love can be seen in their eyes
and on their faces and in their words/gestures.

There was more physical intimacy in JA between the leads yet it was labeled as lacking and much was made of it, even attacking the leads personally.

    Struck me as quite strange.

    Reply
    Radhika,
I have also noticed this. I think as far the essence of the love story of a 16th century couple is NOT on the physical intimacy part but on the mannerisms and royalty which their character depicts.!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have been watching MP sometimes recently feel some actors overact and make it drama like but story telling is better despite NR there as well

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sunram, actors on Mughal side r no match to JA serial actors:

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think it's still early to conclude, as the usual hate to love story has just started. There will be big concept of consummation, to garner TRP. but I agree, they hv rightly depicted his struggle on field more than luxury.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Abhay

He looks like an ordinary guy but physically v strong. He can just pick up and kill anyone and is extremely quick on his feet and can suddenly turn up from different directions. For some strange reason not told yet, he is after cows now! I don't know much beyond this. But will update u if I watch this track further. :)

  50. Geeta,
I think the actor playing Akbar there is also good enough. :)

  55. Radhika, as u said the lady in the vision lacks grace n dignity. She seems more like a nautch girl than a royal. Hope, they cast a better girl.
i don't think I hv seen that kwaja sera before. he must be actor in place of Mahamanga'e confidnate, I forgot her name.Akbar here is shown as having his own mind, no petticoat govt. here.Things don't move fast here, Radhika. I think it will take 3-4 months fr jodha to come on screen even if she comes. I don't remember the sequence of events whether Behram khan is killed first or the entry of Jodha?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Abhay, Radhika, is it true that Pratap never comes to know abt the evil intention of Dhirbhai, in his life time? Then how this is recorded in writing n by whom?Do we hv another Ruqs in the making?
I think whatever NR they r using, they drive home historical truth, so as history-geek said we hv Pratap as a loving brother. What a contrast to shahjahans,n Aurangzebs

    ReplyDelete
  60. Abhay

You are so sure I won't continue watching for long LOL

    ReplyDelete
  61. Geeta

I would say all this drama is NR. Dheerbai had ambitions for her son and she did get her son Jagmaal made the heir secretly. But I don't think she ever plotted to this extent against him.

Pratap is maryada purshottam personified. Even if he knew about her, he would never have spoken about it or turned against her. Whatever NR the CVs r showing, at least, they have got MP's personality right. I can imagine MP would have been just like this - principled, placing his Dharma above everything, dignified, quiet, gentle and loving with family, self-sacrificing, ruthless with enemies,... The actor who is playing MP has been able to get into the skin of the character, making MP look so lifelike.

You are right - MP is a total contrast to the feuding Mughals. I bet he would not have spoken against Jagmaal when the latter was made king. It was the elders in the court who removed Jagmaal physically from the throne and crowned MP as the king. MP himself would have accepted it with grace and dignity.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Geeta dear, your inputs are always sensible :) Do keep sharing.

  67. Geeta,
As Radhika said, it is true. MP did not object when Jagmaal was made the king. Instead he silently decided to leave the palace. But was spotted and brought back by the nobles. Truly, they have got MP's "humanitarian depiction" correctly. But sometimes they make him appear very clueless infront of Bhatiyani queen.!

Freinds, I really liked that nagma, very melodious hummable one check out 4th feb episode. Ayushi I am sure u will like it .Haulese tera khayaal aaya to karaar aaya

  70. Geeta,
