    1. Rashmi..

      There are 2 people.

      1. Mahmud of Ghazni / Mahmud Ghazni
      2. Muhammad of Ghazni / Muhammad Ghazni

It was Mahmud of Ghazni who invaded 17 times.. Mahmud Ghazni was the father of Muhammad Ghazni.

They were Ghaznavids, and not related to Akbar's family. :)

    1. Rashmi,

The word Mughals is derived from "Mongols" .. Mughals originally belonged to present day Mongolia and slowly migrated to Central Asia..

Afghanistan had many tribes/clans -> Ghurids, Ghaznavids, Khokhars, etc..
So, All those who came from Afghanistan were not Mughals. :)

  3. Maham Begum

She was an attractive personality who was also the chief and favorite wife of Babur. Persian. Abul Fazl says that she was from a noble Khurasan family.

Humayun was born to her on March 6, 1508. About 507 years back this month. :)

Another 4 children - Barbul, Mihr Jahan, Isan Daulat and Faruq - were born to her but, unfortunately, died in infancy.

She had well-defined rights over other inmates of the harem. She used to sit by the side of her husband on the throne. She was powerful, moody and spoilt. Babur could not say no to her for anything.

While generally the edicts of queens are called hukms, Babur called her edict as farman!! He gave her so much importance. :)

Maham Begum was one of the earliest Persian-Mughal queens who played a substantial role in the Mughal sultanat.

  4. Babur's Parents and Grandmother

Babur's father, Umer Shaikh Mirza, was a literary person with a poetic nature. His mother, Qutluq Nigar Khanum, was the daughter of a scholar and is believed to have been a scholar in Turki and Persian herself. Together they molded Babur's literary taste.

Babur's grandmother, Isan Daulat, was a cultured lady who had a considerably greater influence on Babur than even his mother. Babur says of her that "There were few of her gender that excelled her in sense and sagacity."
